West Iceland is a land of black beaches, set against the backdrop of Skardsvik Bay, strewn with golden sand and equipped with parking lot and a picnic table. The coast is embraced by volcanic boulders, whose grottoes beckon young adventurers. In 1962, local newspapers started talking about Skardsvik Beach after archaeologists stumbled upon the tomb of a young Viking here. The artifacts have been still kept in the National Museum of Iceland.
