The Seltjarnarnes Peninsula is a 10-minute drive from the center of Reykjavik. People come to the sandy ledge to watch birds, the northern lights, play golf and swim in the geothermal bath, without leaving the city limits. Seltjarnarnes is connected by a sand spit with the island of Grotta, which can only be wandered at low tide. A picturesque lighthouse, the hero of postcards and photographs, glows at the edge of the Grotta.
